Color & LRV Consultation
Consultant: Sarah Jenkins, Lead Interior Architect
Choosing the wrong paint color is the most common home decorating mistake. Colors look completely different in store aisles under fluorescent lights than they do on your walls under natural daylight or warm evening LEDs.
In this specialized color consultation, we analyze your room's compass orientation (North, South, East, or West exposure) to see how the natural light shifts throughout the day. We balance the color scheme using the 60-30-10 dominant, secondary, and accent formula and select paint values with the correct Light Reflectance Value (LRV) to ensure your space looks bright and balanced.
Our Scientific Approach to Color
Natural Light Orientation Review
North-facing rooms receive cool, blue-tinted light, making cool grays look clinical. South-facing rooms receive warm, intense light that washes out pale yellows. We map your room\'s compass orientation to select colors that counteract these light distortions.
Light Reflectance Value (LRV) Balancing
LRV measures the percentage of light a color reflects. For main walls, we target a balanced LRV (typically 50-75%) that reflects enough light to feel open and bright without looking chalky or reflecting glare.
Coordinating Sheens & Trim Schedules
We specify the exact paint sheens for your surfaces (matte/flat for walls to hide dry-wall flaws, satin/eggshell for high-traffic zones, and semi-gloss for trim and doors) to guarantee durability and optimal light play.
